    Title : Happy 牛 Year!
    Time : 8:02 AM

To those back home, lucky you! Enjoy all the CNY goodies and the joy of receiving angpaus. Oh, and of course the festive mood and your relatives! Don't spend all your angpau money on blackjack, poker, mahjong or chor tai dee okay:P

To those away from home ( :( :( :( :( :( ), have fun at your uni's msian/singaporean society's CNY Dinner/Party! I skipped mine because it's not worth it. Anyway, I suppose it's the closest you can get from being thousands of miles away from home. Then again, dunno about you guys but there isn't much of a festive mood here so honestly, I won't even remember that it is CNY unless I log into facebook, MSN or look at the calendar. I've got a test on the 1st day of CNY >_< I suppose that could be offset by the fact that my parents are coming over for CNY! (then again we never had a reunion for the past 4 years cuz my bros are over here) ANYWAY - hope that you all can pull through CNY without much of a pain! Summer's half a year away!

Decided to post something because it has been sooooo quiet. And hello/welcome shan zheng:P

I suppose Msia/Sg/Aus people are busy spring-cleaning, baking CNY cookies and shopping! UK/US/Ireland people are either doing assignment, studying for tests or just having fun/slacking. Whyyyy can't Msia/Sg be next to UK/US/Ireland:( Why can't Doraemon's pintu suka hati be real!

Sigh..no more rambling. Happy CNY to all :)

    Title : Malaysia vs. Singapore
    Time : 3:33 PM

I happened to have stumbled upon this site. It's hilarious! The satire on both nationalities... sigh:) I'm posting this up because of the relevance of this issue to us, maybe not so now for the people studying overseas, but nevertheless it is still a good read! Enjoy:) - Nat-

    http://malaysianisms.blogspot.com/2008/08/27-hating-singapore.html

Malaysia has a longstanding relationship filled with grudging tolerance and mutual animosity for its neighbouring country, Singapore. For the uninitiated, Singapore used to be a part of Malaysia a very long time ago. Some people still think they should be. But these are the same people who think divorce by SMS is perfectly legitimate.

But I digress. To help you understand, here’s an analogy: the relationship Malaysia and Singapore have is much like the
relationship between the United States and Canada. Both countries are virtually the same save for one or two distinguishing factors and that they hate each other with a vengeance. If you guessed which country Malaysia is in that
comparison, give yourself a pat on the back.

Malaysian people hate Singapore for various reasons. One of them is that Singaporeans are fond of claiming that they are superior to Malaysia as a country. Their basis for this postulation is their efficient public transport, totalitarian government, stringent pursuit of education and superior exchange rate. Some of these are things that Malaysians
could debate but it would cause more bad than good through comparison. The usual retort of a Malaysian person is “Your country is a pirated version of ours”.

Malaysians will support the fact that they are better by stating the Malaysian origins of the hawker food which Singapore falsely acknowledges as theirs, a country much larger and richer with natural resources and the absence of laws on chewing gum. That’s it really. Of course, one could make the argument
that a Malaysian may be kiasu but would never stoop to the depths that a Singaporean will. This age old question of who is more kiasu will one day be answered when both countries
organize a free food eating competition to the death.

However there are a significant number of Malaysians who are constantly caught in this crossfire. They are the Malaysians plying their trade in Singapore and more often than not,
are Permanent Residents. These Malaysians feel an obvious loyalty to their country of origin but are equally compelled to serve their own cause. If you should ever question the loyalty of a Malaysian living in Singapore, be prepared for a long, drawn out answer which they have prepared and perfected over time to deal with irritants like you.

This conflicted Malaysian will state that they are actually doing Malaysia a service. Although they may work in Singapore, they
spend all of their hard earned money in Malaysia whenever possible. Because the exchange rate is 2:1, they are able to contribute more to the economy than the average Malaysian can. While doing this, they are also plundering Singapore’s
resources and using up what natural energy that they have on a long term basis.

So you see, the Malaysian living in Singapore is actually performing a national duty that is most ingenious but requires a great amount of personal sacrifice.

Naturally this is something you must acknowledge.Take this Malaysian aside and say to them “Hey, thanks. Sincerely, Malaysia”. Then grin and give them two thumbs up. This Malaysian will then return to Singapore with a smile on their
face that stretches further than a Singaporean’s waistband after a buffet meal.

    Title : My celebration
    Time : 5:26 PM

Nothing much. I'm actually wondering why I'm even writing here. :P Grace!.. I'm waiting for xuefen to read the part about the chocolates and stuff and see what's her reply... XD

Haha.. anyway I hope you all had a great new year's celebration (unlike me) and all the best in the coming year!
    Title : A New Year's Arrival
    Time : 5:21 PM

The sky is black, the stars white,

    And like any other night,

The yellow cheese shines bright above.

It’s peaceful up there, and quite so here on earth.

But peace won’t reign for long because the

    Slow but steady second hand

Is moving, and it takes another

    Step

    And

    BANG! WHOOSH! WHEE! BLAM! BLAP!

    Glorious fire fills the air.

    As people their joys share

    Amidst fireworks’ screams and wails

Here a bit and there a byte

Of MSNs and SMSes and emails

    Rush along out of sight

    Telling people “The old year

Is gone, the new is here!

    Forget your mistakes and

    Go, go at it again!”

    Title : Welcome to 2009!
    Time : 4:24 AM

    Hello!!! :D

    *Welcome to 2009!*
    * - fireworks

I'm currently bunking in with Marianne (and she says hi. So lazy to blog!) so I'm in Oxford...smartass town with lots of weird traditions! I decided to drop by because we both are lonely people who have no money to fly home and go for ski trip/Paris/Eurotrip or have aunties in London so we decided to keep each other company especially since it's the New Year (which we spent karaoke-ing in a non-soundproof room in this HK restaurant - Lan Kwai Fong). Supposed to go for countdown in a local pub but we've got carried away watching movies (it was Sweeney Todd when we transited to 2009 [Btw, trivia time! Did you know, Darrel Ang Tzer Hong slept in the cinema while watching Sweeney Todd? How could he!! And I know D'Ang won't ever come here so I can say this:D]).

Spent the 1st of Jan visiting the Botanic Garden...which has no form of living thing...except this one lonely winter rose and lots of branches and stems with no leaves. Even the pond/fountain are half frozen :( There was an urn with black stuff inside...I believe it's a form of plant because it's in the Botanic Garden and it's under the Oriental Plant category. We didn't see much there actually...only geese and ducks and cactus. Didn't spend much time there (because there's nothing to see anyway), so we left for one of Oxford's college - Magdalen (pronounced at Mow The Lawn - people here are trying to be funny/different/clever) College. In this college, there is a deer park (I know, wth right?) and trivia time (again), did you know, the number of deer corresponds to the number of fellows (ie staff) in this college? So if a fellow dies/retires/leaves, they will shoot one of the deer and eat it. So what if one of the deer dies? Don't know if they will feed the deer with human meat... :-O Yet another trivia - did you know that Susan from Narnia (whatever her real name is) is a 2nd year student in Magdalen College? So cool..Marianne actually saw her at this restaurant once but didn't know it was her until someone mention it later. Anyway we didn't see her there cuz she's probably hiding in the wardrobe or talking to the lion or trying to be a White Bitch...I mean witch.

Anyway, Magdalen College looks like Hogwarts. Actually I think it's just an Oxford thing. We went inside the college and took a couple of photos which we will put it on fb sometime when we're more hardworking. Since it's the 1st of Jan and most of the shops are closed, we went back for dinner.

Day 2 - Slept at 3 because we're talking about JC (like trying to remember people's name...people like Jion Chun and how Cheng Feng looks like, and who Canaan's gf is/was, trying to name the whole girls' bball team etc etc). Woke up at 9.30am and we left for the covered market in town. I had the most awesome tasting milkshake in my life - Toblerone milkshake!!!111 This stall (it's called Moo-moo's milkshake...I know, so cute!) has like 200 over different flavours for milkshake like Ferrero Rocher, Kit Kat, Hershey's, whatever other chocolate, Scottish Shortbread, SWEETS (Yeah, gula-gula. Disgusting I know) etc. Even today's special sounds disgusting - it's Hershey's cookies and chocolate and banana and white Kinder Bueno milkshake. So basically, if you try the more normal flavoured ones, you should be safe and you don't have to visit your local loo :D Heh I don't know, didn't wanna risk it. But they are not all so disgusting because they have fruit sMOOthies! Okay, maybe not because I saw one which has the weirdest combination ever! They had watermelon, pineapple and banana in one drink. Ugh. We walked around the market and bought beef for dinner and we saw lots of clothes shops and pastry shops etc etc. Left for the Oxford Museum then. Took a few photos illegally before we got told off by the woman there :( (but we still get the photos anyway!). Museum's was rather interesting because it's basically all the artefacts they dug out from Oxford's ground (like a rhino's tooth etc). But at the end of the day, it's still quite museum-like. Moving on, we went to another college in Oxford - Christchurch aka Hogwarts. They shot some of the scenes in Harry Potter here like the Great Hall and staircases and stuff like that. Was quite interesting - went to the cathedral and got shouted at by the caretaker of the cathedral (just like Mr Filch!) because we took a photo with some special pew (apparently only the High Priest/Duke can sit/stand/enter it...but we still got the photo anyway:D:D). We went to the gift shop (I know, so commercialised!) and tried to buy a coaster/bookmark for ourselves but we can't find our names! Marianne's name might not be so common but I can't even find mine!:( Sad:(

Anyway, after that we went shopping...bought some clothes because there's still crazy discounts going on everywhere which we simply must take advantage of! Came back around 5-ish and had dinner (because we had no lunch) and erm...we just finished dinner. And now we're here telling you how we spent the last two days and I said "Hello!!! *Welcome to 2009*" hmm seems like I'm repeating myself!:P

So how was your celebration? I bet it's not as fun as ours because Marianne + Grace = pwn all your heads:D:D:D:D:D Yes we're still pretty much the same!

On a side note, those who have not contributed any post here *cough*Ten*cough*Dang*cough*Huey Yuen*cough*Yi Jiet*cough*Nat*cough*weivien*cough*Samuel*cough*Wan Xin*cough*Eu Choon*cough*etc*coughcoughcoughdiealreadyla* by a certain date...I give you hourly report okay:D

    Okla byebye

Lots of Oxford love (No Ten and Darrel because they PANGSEH!),
    Marianne & Grace,
GREATEST people in the whole wide world...oh wait, that's an understatement - universe!

    PS: Jojojojo...it's reminiscence :)
